The Roman Dominance

“The Romans, great soldiers with superior military discipline and intelligence, saw the event as an opportunity to further extend their dominance.”

They came. They saw. They conquered. Two thousand years ago, the world was ruled by Rome. From England to Africa, and from Syria to Spain, one in every four people on earth lived and died under Roman law.

The Roman Army was considered the most advanced of its time. It was one of the first times in history that a man could make his living entirely by warfare and killing. Every soldier needed to be an exceptionally skilled fighter in order to shape the army into an efficient killing machine. The Roman believed it was more useful for soldiers to be strong and brave than big.

If there is one thing in which Roman ingenuity, tenacity and ruthlessness was best displayed, other than by the organization of the legion itself, then it must have been the Roman art of siege warfare. No other ancient civilization’s army ever showed such thoroughness and such single-mindedness when setting about winning, no matter what the effort to do so required.
